MUSIC 1 · Music Theory
Instructor: Dr. Peter Knapp

Course Information: Music Theory 1 is designed for music majors, but is open to non-majors with musical performance experience. This course covers the following topics through analysis and application of compositional practices of pieces from the common-practice period: diatonic harmony, primary and secondary triads, non-harmonic tones, dominant seventh chords, four-part writing, and figured bass.

Course Information: Music Theory 2 is designed for music majors, but is open to non-majors with musical performance experience. This course covers the following topics through analysis and application of compositional practices of pieces from the common-practice period: dominant sevenths, other sevenths, secondary functions, modulation, small forms, mixture, Neapolitans, and augmented 6th chords.


MUSIC 3 · Counterpoint

Course Information: Counterpoint techniques of the 18th Century, including species counterpoint, are covered.


MUSIC 4 · Music Theory III

Course Information: Music Theory 4 is designed for music majors, but is open to non-majors with musical performance experience. This course covers the following topics through analysis and application of compositional practices of pieces from the common-practice period: enharmonic spellings and modulations, extended chords, more altered chords, common-tone diminished sevenths, late-Romantic techniques, serial techniques, set-class theory, and other 20th century techniques.

Course Information: Covers the techniques of musical dictation and sight-singing with basic, tonal materials. Topics covered are scales, intervals, basic chord structures, and harmonic-melodic-rhythmic dictation.

Course Information: A broad approach to musical literature and its place in the cultural development of Western civilization. This class is designed for a person who has no background in music and desires three (3) transferable units in Humanities. The units will transfer to any four-year institution.


MUSIC 47AD · Wind Ensemble

Course Information: A performance organization which seeks out, prepares and performs wind band literature from all periods and musical styles. While all repertoire is considered, the majority of music performed is somewhat more traditional in nature and tends to be focused more on mainstream 20th Century literature composed and transcribed for wind and percussion instruments.
The LBCC Wind Ensemble performs two times a semester, along with traveling on its annual tour. Previous tours have included performing at San Francisco's Union Square, Mammoth Lake, Lake Tahoe, Sacramento, Edwards Air Force Base, and various clinics and conerts at both public and private institutions. In the Spring 2001 tour the Wind Ensemble is planning to embark on a cruise to Ensenada. The Wind Ensemble meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00pm - 3:00pm.


MUSIC 61AD · Music Mastering

Course Information: Music Mastering is the final step in the audio production process which prepares the project for manufacturing/ duplication. In this course, you will learn analog and digital editing, EQing, use of compression, applying musicality, 2-mix storage and submission formats, and duplication formats as they apply to the mastering phase of production.
Enrollment in Music 61, Music Mastering, requires successful completion of Music 94, Beginning Recording Techniques.

Course Information: Students are introduced to keyboard skills. Basic technique, major and minor five finger patterns, major scales, sight reading and chord progressions are encountered in beginning piano music.

Course Information: Beginning Recording Techniques is a hands-on training program..... after all, you can't learn to swim without going in the water. We offer a full complement of equipment for preparing your required projects, but if you already have a home studio, that's great.... this class will teach you to navigate your way around that too. The goal is to prepare you for a career in Audio.

Course Information: In Intermediate Recording Techniques, we take the information learned in Music 94 [Beginning Recording Techniques] and apply it in a studio session environment, focusing on the use of modular studio components, use of microphones and micing techniques, and the development of studio communication techniques.

In order to take Music 95, Intermediate Recording Techniques, students must successfully complete Music 94, Beginning Recording Techniques.
