Course Information:
Prerequisite: READ 883 or through the assessment process. READ 82 covers the three components of reading comprehension: literal, critical, and affective. The course provides instruction, exercises, and strategies designed to help students effectively read college textbooks. Students will develop vocabulary and increase reading rate to aid in reading college level material.

Course Information: A study of methods to expand general word knowledge and build academic vocabulary emphasizing conceptual development and effective communication. Specifically designed to increase personal vocabulary skills and stimulate appreciation of the English language. Cognitive scientist Lev Vygotsky said, "Thought is born through words." This class will provide you with many opportunities to read a variety of materials, further expand your vocabulary knowledge, develop effective comprehension strategies, and become part of the LBCC community. Class activities will include engaging in small group and class discussions, participating in cooperative group projects, writing reflective responses to reading assignments, completing varied online lab activities, and demonstrating understanding through various assessments.

Course Information: Prerequisite: Qualification through reading assessment process or English 882A or Read 882.
Reinforces instruction in reading improvement strategies and vocabulary enrichment, emphasizing the development of critical comprehension. Read 883 is For students who have previously acquired essential reading skills and need developmental instruction. Focus continues to be on comprehension strategies, mainly the activation of prior knowledge, setting of purposes, making predictions and creating new learning from text. Exposure to longer selections will provide additional opportunities for note taking, summarizing and outlining, the use of critical thinking skills and the recognition of patterns of organizations in selected literature.
This course will reinforce previous instruction in reading comprehension strategies and vocabulary development and is
designed to improve your critical reading skills. This class is especially helpful for students who have previously acquired essential comprehension skills, but who will benefit from further instruction of different reading strategies.
Students will learn to systematically analyze and logically examine written passages by improving ability inferential and critical thinking skills.In addition, this class will enhance your reading enjoyment and knowledge of the world.
