Windows Offline Download and Installation Instructions for Java Runtime Environment (JRE)

Step One: Download and Install

  1. Go to java.com
  2. Click Manual Download under Get Java Software.
  3. Click Download next to Windows (Offline Installation).

The File Download dialog box appears.

  1. Choose Save.
  2. Choose the folder location. (Save the file to a known location on your computer, for example, to your desktop).
  3. Click Save.
  4. Close all applications including the browser.
  5. Find the file you saved and double-click to open.
  6. Follow all instructions given by the setup wizard to complete the installation.
  7. You will see the confirmation message " Installation Completed OK ."

Step Two: Enable and Configure

Configuring Java for your Browser

Internet Explorer 4.x and Up
  1. Click "Tools" --> "Internet Options"
  2. Select the Advanced Tab, and scroll down to "Java (Sun)"
  3. Check the box next to the "Use Java 2" version
  4. Next, select the Security Tab, and select the "Custom Level" button
  5. Scroll down to "Scripting of Java applets"
  6. Make sure the "Enable" radio button is checked.
  7. Click OK to save your preference.

Mozilla 1.x

  1. From the menu bar, choose Edit --> Preferences
  2. Select the Advanced category
  3. Check the box labeled "Enable Java"
  4. Click OK to save your preference.

Netscape 7.x

  1. From the menu bar, choose Edit --> Preferences
  2. Select the Advanced category
  3. Check the box labeled "Enable Java"
  4. Click OK to save your preference.

Firefox 0.8 and Up

  1. Start Mozilla Firefox browser or restart it if it is already running.
  2. Select Tools > Options.
  3. Dialog box: Options
  4. Click the Content tab > Select Enable Java

Step Three: Test Installation
Run the installation verifier from the Java web site at http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp to test for proper installation and configuration.
