What Equipment Will You Need?

This is the Text Version.

Various technology-based courses require using different equipment. Here you can identify the items necessary for accessing the technology-based courses, by reviewing the appropriate technology for each of the courses.

Online

  • Computer: any course that uses the Internet in one format or another requires a computer and a monitor to be able to access the course.
  • Modem: any course that uses the Internet in one format or another requires a modem or another sort of line connection to the Internet. At home, you will use this line connection to dial up to an Internet Service Provider. An alternative to these line is cable connection.
  • Internet Browser: any course that uses the Internet in one format or another requires a browser to naviagate through the course Web pages. From home, you will need to sign up to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) such as Earthlink or America Online and browse the Web using their browser.

TeleWeb

  • Computer: any course that uses the Internet in one format or another requires a computer and a monitor to be able to access the course.
  • Modem: any course that uses the Internet in one format or another requires a modem or another sort of line connection to the Internet. At home, you will use this line connection to dial up to an Internet Service Provider. An alternative to these line is cable connection
  • Internet Browser: any course that uses the Internet in one format or another requires a browser to naviagate through the course Web pages. From home, you will need to sign up to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) such as Earthlink or America Online and browse the Web using their browser.

Televised/Telecourse

  • VCR: it is recommeded to have a VCR to access videos necessary for any course that uses video in one format or another. Some courses will send you an actual videotape to play on your VCR, and for other courses it would be easier to tape a TV broadcast in case you are not available to watch at the time that it was playing, or in case you want to watch it again.
  • TV: you will need a TV to watch the Telecourse broadcast consisting of the relevant TV programs that your instructor selected for your course
  • Cable Box: if you leave in the Long Beach area and have access to the local cable TV, it is recommended to watch your course's programs using cable TV as the programs are scheduled to be broacasted frequently on the LBCC cable channel.

Web-Enhanced
